Explore The History
In 1984, The Groot Constantia State Estate, which includes the Groot Constantia and Hoop op Constantia homesteads and all the outbuildings, was declared a National Monument by the Minister of the Department of National Education. Take a walk up to the top of the Wine Estate and find the historical baths – it’s a great spot for photos, or quiet contemplation.

Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate next to the historic Homestead and surrounded by ancient oak trees.
The Jonkershuis eatery boasts a diversity of locations from private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fireside dining, to typical Italian village gatherings in our courtyard to family-style lunches next to the front lawns, where children can safely play, reminiscent of a bygone era.
Jonkershuis is conscious of the provenance, sustainability and the ethical content of all the food we prepare, as well as reflecting the rich Cape Malay heritage of our “home”, this cultural history lends a magical and old world charm to any occasion held here.
